LANDIS – More than five fire departments responded to a two-alarm blaze at a Landis mill Sunday night.
Landis Fire Chief Reed Linn said the fire at Parkdale Mill Plant No. 23, at 100 S. Main St., started at the rear on the first floor of building B before spreading to the crawlspace and tunnel system, which acts as the ventilation system for the plant, shortly before 9 p.m.
It took firefighters from Landis, Enochville, China Grove, Atwell and Enochville about an hour to get to the blaze under control.
Firefighters from several other departments staged at Corriher-Lipe Middle School, but were not called on to help tame the fire.
Linn said the plant was in operation when the fire broke out, but no one was injured.
Building A continued operation during the fire. Linn said although building B was shut down during the incident, he expected it to be back up and running later Sunday night.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. The Landis Fire Department will be investigating.
